As it was another nice weather day, we decided to go to Howth, a seaside community on a peninsula about a 30 minute train ride from Dublin. We took the green tram line (LUAS) to Westmoreland and walked a few minutes to the DART train station from there.

After getting to Howth, starting at the train station, we first walked along one of the piers, and then we walked along the Coastal Way (Harbour Road and Balscadden Road and then foot path) to the section called the Howth Cliff Walk. We walked along the Cliff Walk for a bit and stopped at “the nose of Howth” at some outcroppings before the steeper section, at about 1.4 miles from the start of our walk.

We relaxed a while, and then headed back for a lunch of calamari and shrimp and chips (fries) at Beshoff Brothers. Then we walked back to the train station for the ride home after a nice morning and early afternoon.
Larry found a Chinese food and Hong Kong style Dim Sum restaurant in Ranelagh, a neighborhood one stop south on the tram – Mak at D6. Rangelagh is relatively affluent and boasts trendy and good restaurants and pubs. Our dinner was excellent, service was excellent, and the staff was very friendly. We had “starters” and “small bites” that turned out to be very substantial – we almost couldn’t finish. We had aromatic duck with pancakes, hoisin sauce, cucumber, and spring onion; steamed ginger scallops; crispy tofu; and pan-fried string beans.
