MacRitchie – Central Catchment Nature Reserve
Today we went to the MacRitchie Reservoir area to hike the TreeTop Walk. We took the NE line at Clarke Quay to Serangoon, transferred to the CC line to Marymount, and then bus 410 to Upper Thomson Road/Venus Drive.
This is a pretty nice surburban area with with a pretty high-end neighborhood that we initially walked through just before Venus Drive before and getting righted to the trail access by a resident walking his dog.
There is a access of about a mile and a half to the official start of the one-way loop, but it’s pretty and not much different from the trail. The access does run alongside Island Club Road and the Singapore Island Country Club at times.
The loop trail features a 250 meter (820 feet) suspension bridge between the two highest points in the nature reserve and the first of its kind in Singapore. The trail is about mile and a half as well, making the total about four and a half miles.
Along the way, we saw many long-tailed macaques. There are warning signs about not taking out food, as they will come up and try to steal it from you. At least one person (don’t know what that person did to attract the monkey) got a small bite on his arm, and was telling the person at the beginning of the bridge as we headed onto the suspension bridge.
Some pretty flowers along the way.
Ouch. Rattan has some impressive self-defense spikes.
Dinner was with Priya Krishnamoorthy, Leah’s brother-in-law’s wife’s sister. Priya works for CSC in Singapore.
