Rome - Day 6 - Moses and an Evening Stroll

First day of the MEF conference. Larry attended various meetings. Eileen joined Larry for the plenary session. By 5 pm, Larry was ready to head into town.

We took our friend, Tram 8, to Piazza Venezia, with our intended destination St. Peter in Chains Church and the famous Moses by Michelangelo. We walked by the Victor Emmanuel Momument, Trajan’s Column, Trajan’s Forum, etc., down Via Cavour, and up a set of steps (not obvious unless you used mapping technology to know that was the spot to turn) to the church. There are two major sights in the church — the Moses and the chains that (supposedly) bound Peter.

The chains are in that lit rectangular case straight ahead under the altar in the apse.

Yep, the chains.

After the church, we wandered around the narrow cobble-stoned streets of the Monti neighborhood the church sits in. We ended up eating at La Cicala e La Formica (the cicada and the ant), a very enjoyable meal that started with a antipasto of sun-dried tomatoes, eggplant, artichokes, and mozzarella, and ended with one of the best espressos we have had and a delicious rich chocolate dessert.

After dinner, we took our time walking back to the tram, snapping shots of the Colosseum, Trajan’s Column, Forum, and Market, and the Victor Emmanuel Monument. At the Market, there was a movie projection on the market wall of various sights of Rome, and we stopped and watched for a little bit. Everywhere we went, there were lots of people strolling and hanging out.

Finally the tram and then back to A. Roma by a little after 10 pm.

[What happened to Day 5? Eileen was sick (not food-related). We spent some time seeing a doctor. Eileen slept while Larry met up with people from the conference and went out to dinner in Trastevere at Ristorante Da Massi. Fortunately all was pretty much back to normal by the middle of Day 6].
