Larry had a two-day meeting in London Tuesday-Wednesday, January 27 and 28, so we planned a little sightseeing around the meeting. Our original plan was to leave on Sunday and return the following Saturday. Boston weather – major snowstorm forecasted – had other plans, and we moved up our trip up Saturday night, same evening flight on Delta.

The hotel for the meeting was The Stratford in East London, right by Elizabeth Olympic Park, home of 2012 Summer Olympics, and a huge shopping complex called the Westfield Stratford City. After landing at 6:30 am and clearing immigration, we took the one hour trip to the hotel on the Elizabeth Overground Line, just opened in 2022. We actually walked from Stratford station through the enclosed Westfield mall (we were to do that many times) to get to the hotel.

A note on the underground, buses, and trains – tap in (and off) with the iphone and apple watch! We only had to set the express transit card on our phones. It also pays to create an account on Transport for London, as you can see your transactions and ask for refunds if there is an issue. The TfL app gives you great routing information.

After a light breakfast in the mall at a Costa Coffee shop, we went to our room and crashed after a 5-6 hour flight and no sleep. So not much happened that day. We walked around a bit and walked to dinner at Hera, a very upscale Greek restaurant.
