On our last day in Les Eyzies, we were ready for some easy walks and some relaxation. The temperatures had been rising over the week and Friday was pretty warm. We walked into town to the tourist office and picked out some walks around Les Eyzies.
The first one we chose was the Boucle de la Mouthe (Loop of the Mouth), on the south side of town. The pleasant walk was on both road and shady forest, and we saw orchids again.

During our time in the Périgord we were amazed by these outcroppings, leftovers from eons ago.

When we finished the loop, we walked back up the main road to visit the fortified Church of Tayac. The church is considered a remarkable example of fortified religious architecture, and dates back to the 12thcentury. It survived both the Hundred Years War and Wars of Religion. In the Middle-Ages, several itineraries guided pilgrims to Santiago de Compostella across the Périgord, one of which was along the Vézère River, and would have included this church.

The church was the starting point for the Boucle des 7 Tours (Towers or Brothers), but we opted for a shorter loop from the same spot as it was getting quite hot and the longer loop had a lot of elevation. The total for the two walks was about 4.5 miles.

We headed back to the hotel for some picnic lunch and lounging by the pool. Dinner was at L'Hostellerie du Passeur, right by the Vézère. Eileen finished up her time in the Périgord with a classic dinner of duck breast with périgord sauce and sarladaise potatoes.
