Canadian Rockies – Day 4

Our day 4 (Friday) drive was about 112 km (70 miles), to Yoho NP in BC, again heading out early to get to busy Emerald Lake while there was still parking. The viewing area was quite busy, but the walk around the lake was not. We walked the full circumference of the lake, a distance of 5.2 km (3.2 miles). It was a bit chilly (mid-high 40s) and it drizzled on and off during the walk but the scenery was amazing.

The four of us in one photo!

The flowers were beautiful so here are a few: Harebell, White Bog Orchid, Paintbrush.

After Emerald Lake we drove to the Visitor’s Center in Field and had lunch there at a picnic table.

After lunch we drove up to Takakkaw Falls, one of the highest in Canada. We walked to the base of the falls and took lots of pictures.

From the base.

From another viewpoint.

On the way back down we stopped at two viewpoints: the first was the confluence of the Yoho River (Glacial) and the Kicking Horse River (clear). The second was a viewpoint of one of the spiral tunnel entrances. The spirals were created to cut down on the grade and turns for the railroad.

The confluence.

Rather than show you holes in the mountain, here’s the explanation at the viewpoint.

We had dinner at Table Food+Drink (tapas) at the Coast Canmore Lodge, a few minute walk from our condo.
